5 Things To Do Before Starting Your Shopify Store

Shopify is all the talk in the digital world for E-commerce solutions.  With the 14 day trial, you are able to make money before you pay for your first month! Having the time to get your store setup and running before your first payment is a blessing, but you must keep in mind the clock starts ticking as soon as you sign up. Going in without a plan be time consuming and stressful. It’s always best to have your roadmap together before you begin your free trial. This helps with a smooth, efficient transition to your new store. So before you hit that “free trial” button, get ahead of the game and take care of these five things first:      1. Purchase your domain

Having your domain ready when you first start your Shopify store ensures your URL is available and ready to add to your new store. Purchasing your own domain takes less than 5 mins.  By adding your custom domain to your store it adds trust and helps with the credibility of your business.

    2.  Purchase your hosted email

After you have purchased your domain, next is choosing a hosted email provider. A hosted email service is similar to domain service that holds your emails and other related data. We wrote a post about it earlier this year, you can read it here. There are plenty of free and paid email hosting providers to choose from. Two options that I use and love are Zoho and Gsuite.

    3.  Add your products to a CSV

Adding products can be time-consuming if you’re creating them one-by-one. But by adding your products to a .csv file, you are able to upload 100’s of products at a time. A CSV is a spreadsheet format that you can create in Excel or Google Sheets and upload multiple websites that accept data. You can upload and set products to automatically publish or be hidden from sales channels in Shopify. If you are migrating from a different e-commerce platform you should be able to download a .csv of your products and upload them directly into Shopify.

     4.  Email marketing

Once your store is up and running, keeping in contact with your new audience becomes a priority. The best way to stay in front of your audience and make sales is to meet them at the one place everyone checks every day: their inboxes!. Signing up for your selected email marketing platform, getting your account approved and set up your customer onboarding system or “Welcome series” is crucial to the longevity of your business.

5. Tax / Shipping Provider

Finally, know what shipping provider and how much tax to charge your ideal customer. Add your business location in Shopify and it will automatically generate taxes for each sale. It is also really easy to use a shipping provider within the platform or you can use a third-party provider like GoShippo or ShipStation to fulfill your orders.
